Update: Due to our outreach, the legislature tabled their proposal their proposal to increase the bed tax. Thank you for the hard work.
Yesterday, the Pennsylvania travel industry was informed that the state legislature had proposed a statewide hotel tax increase that would nearly double the tax rate. The State House is scheduled to vote on this proposal today.
Hotels in Pennsylvania already pay a 6 percent statewide hotel tax in addition to local hotel taxes—and no other entity in the state pays the same. This increase would make Pennsylvania hotel rooms the highest-taxed in the entire country. A hotel tax increase would damage the industry’s ability to attract tourists and sell room nights—fewer visitors hurts the economy.
If you live in Pennsylvania, please call your state legislative offices right now and urge them to oppose an increase on the state hotel occupancy tax.
