The Travel Blitz campaign recently reached a milestone on its way to another year of meaningful and productive events with Members of Congress. Already, more than 30 travel industry roundtable meetings and back-of-house tours have been held with key Senators and Representatives in every corner of the United States. The success is accredited to the enthusiasm of travel professionals who have helped organize and coordinate memorable and timely events in their states and districts.

From Hawaii to New Jersey, our travel leaders have demonstrated just how important it is to build relationships with elected officials and advocate for travel in a face-to-face setting. And with back-of-house tours, they have given elected officials a first-hand look at what it takes to host and accommodate high-level events, truly demonstrating the diverse cross section of local residents and jobs that rely on travelers.

Senators and Representatives from red and blue states affirmed their support for the travel industry at the meetings, and many spoke passionately about the bipartisan, job-creating power of travel. Some highlights of the campaign include strategic events with lawmakers in leadership positions, such as newly promoted House Majority Whip Steve Scalise (R-LA-1), Chairman of the House Committee on Energy and Commerce Fred Upton (R-MI-6) and Chairman of the House Judiciary Committee Bob Goodlatte (R-VA-6). Outstanding back-of-house tours included a bike ride on Lake Michigan with Fred Upton, a tour of a Formula One race track with Representative Michael McCaul (R-TX-10) in Austin, Texas, a meeting on the boardwalk of Atlantic City with Frank LoBiondo (R-NJ-2), and a tour of a casino with Rep. Tammy Duckworth (D-IL-8).

The next Travel Blitz event is November 21 in Oklahoma with Senator-Elect James Lankford (R-OK). This event is particularly timely, as Lankford won a seat in the U.S. Senate on November 4th and will replace retiring Senator Tom Coburn (R-OK) in the 114th Congress.

Thank you again for your support and participation you have enthusiastically provided in 2014. The Travel Blitz campaign will continue to put constituents whose livelihoods depend on travel in front of elected officials so that together we may grow an industry that supports families, communities, and the American economy.
