Rep. Clay Higgins participated in a Travel Talks roundtable at The Acadian Village, a cultural park in Lafayette, LA. The Congressman was joined by the Lt. Governor, Billy Nungesser, and met with 14 travel and tourism leaders, including representatives from the Lafayette Airport, local parish tourist commissions, and the Louisiana Travel Promotion Association.
The Congressman expressed his full support of Brand USA and wants to make sure its funding is included in future legislation. As a member of the Homeland Security Committee, the group spent a large portion of the conversation discussing the Visa Waiver Program. Congressman Higgins agreed that the program is a secure way to increase travel between the U.S. and approved nations.
Both Rep. Higgins and Lt. Gov. Nungesser celebrated the increase of international flights directly into New Orleans and the vast opportunity for growth in the area. The roundtable group discussed maintaining the Open Skies Agreement and the Congressman pledged his full support of the agreement. The Lafayette Airport representative spoke to the importance of an increased Passenger Facility Charge and how it would affect travel to the area. The Congressman expressed his support for lifting the cap on the PFC.
